The Cole Team wants to talk about one of our favorite holidays – Memorial Day. The official kick-off to Summer! Memorial Day Weekend is just around the corner and there are some really great local happenings at some of our favorite spots north of Atlanta to celebrate the holiday with charitable marathons, street festivals, a river canoe trip, fireworks, golfing, tons of excellent eats and drinks and more! With our guide, consider your Memorial Day Weekend Plans=SECURED!

For lovers of music and 1920’s nostalgia, The Alpharetta Symphony Orchestra presents The Roaring 20s Concert in Big Street Park located in Alpharetta! The concert will take place on Monday, May 30th from 7:30 to 9:00pm. So bring your dancing shoes and get ready to jive!

If joining a ruck or cross-fitting for a cause is more your speed, then we encourage you to sign up for one of the events being held on Monday, May 30th. The Memorial Day MURPH 2022 at Generis Performance & Fitness Systems in Cumming is being held from 8:00am to 12:00pm.

American Legion in Alpharetta is hosting their Memorial Day 10K Ruck starting at 8:00am. Sheep Dog Impact Assistance Georgia team will be hosting the second annual Carry the Load 10K ruck honoring the servicemen and women who lost their lives in defense of this great nation. Participants will be transported from the American Legion Post 201 in Alpharetta to the John's Creek Veterans Memorial at Newtown park to begin the ruck. Food will be available for donation at Post 201 following the event.

Perhaps you’re seeking a more family-friendly event to attend over the weekend? Well we’d absolutely suggest checking out the 18th Annual 2022 Alpharetta Arts Streetfest at The Grove at Wills Park in Downtown Alpharetta. Over 100 artists will showcase their works for delighted shoppers in this beautiful park behind the Alpharetta Community Center. Food and beverage vendors will be serving delightful festival fare and the kids will be entertained in the creative Kidz Zone. Lots of shade is available for those who prefer it. The event is set to start on Saturday, May 28th at 10:00am and run through Sunday, May 29th at 5:00pm.

For anyone interested in a classic Memorial Day Tribute to pay your respects, there are a few tributes and ceremonies happening in Alpharetta and Roswell!

The Alpharetta Memorial Day Tribute is being held at Alpharetta City Hall on Monday, May 30th from 9:00 to 10:30am. The program will include Invocation, the National Anthem, and the Pledge of Allegiance presented by Keynote Speaker Lt. Col. Jeff Davis USMC (Retired).

Roswell residents have the choice of attending the Memorial Day Ceremony at City Hall hosted by the Roswell Rotary Club from 10:00am to 1:00pm where a crowd will join to remember our vets who proudly served our country.

You could also attend the 23rd Annual Roswell Remembers Memorial Day Celebration at Roswell City Hall starting at 11:00am. This is the largest Memorial Day Ceremony of its kind in the Southeast and attracts visitors throughout Georgia and the Southeast.

The grounds open at 10:00 a.m. with displays for the public. Pre-ceremony music provided by Roswell New Horizons Band begins at 10:15 a.m. The program will include a military ceremony, presentation of colors, the national anthem, Pledge of Allegiance, POW/MIA tribute, and the laying of the wreath.

New this year is Roswell Garden Club’s dedication of the Blue Star &Gold Star Families Memorial Markers. The Blue Star Marker is a tribute to all those who have served, are serving and will serve in the United States Armed Services. The Gold Star Families Marker is a tribute to those who have lost a loved one in service to the United States. Blue Star & Gold Star markers are a program of the National Garden Club.

Past DG Al Lipphardt VFW Gold Legacy Member and a member of the Rotary Club of Stone Mountain is the Blue Star Speaker.

Finally, if a day spent in the sun or out on the water with family and friends is what you have your sights on, then we absolutely recommend you check out the Memorial Day River Canoe Trip at Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell scheduled for Monday, May 30th from 9:00am to 12:00pm for a peaceful morning spent in nature.

If a more rambunctious weekend is calling your name, then Cole Team would say to head on over to Lake Lanier to check out the 2022 Memorial Day Activities at Lanier Islands that are happening all weekend long! Whether you are spending the day, the night, the weekend or the whole week, Lanier Islands has plenty of activities to entertain you, your friends, and your family! From dining events, to fireworks, to water park tickets and playing in the sand, they have something for everyone! View their activities flyer to see what events appeal most to you!

No matter what Memorial Day event you choose to attend, we know you will have a great time experiencing the best that Forsyth County has to offer!
